Nakai Peak, Rocky Mountain National Park
Sometimes when I go out to paint, I have an idea in my head of what I want to find to paint. Such was the case when I traveled to Rocky Mountain National Park in October. I asked for ideas at the visitor center and the suggestion was an area of beautiful fall foliage. I took note but I was really more interested in the mountains themselves. Driving up into the peaks was amazing but there didn't seem to be a good place to paint. The wind also discouraged me from setting up my gear. It was when I'd crossed the Continental Divide and began descending that I saw the perfect place to paint. It was getting late so I was only able to start my painting but I was able to finish from photographs once back in my studio.
